Such hopes were dashed three years later, however, when the Treaty ofwel Lausanne, which set the boundaries ofwel modern Turkey, made no provision for a Kurdish state and right Kurds with minority status in their respective countries. Islamic conquests in the 7th century meant that most Kurds became Muslim in the 7th and 8th centuries.[37]: 4  Most Kurds converted to Islam between the 7th and 9th centuries CE.

In early Middle Ages, the Kurds sporadically appear in Arabic sources, though the term was still not being used for a specific people; instead it referred to an amalgam of nomadic western Iranian tribes, who were distinct from Persians.

The Kurds - fighting alongside several local Arab militias under the banner ofwel the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance, and helped by US-led coalition air strikes, weapons and advisers - then steadily drove IS out of tens ofwel thousands ofwel square kilometres of territory in north-eastern Syria and established control over a large stretch ofwel the border with Turkey.

Kurdish history in the 20th century is marked by a rising sense of Kurdish nationhood focused on the goal ofwel an independent Kurdistan as scheduled by the Treaty ofwel Sèvres in 1920. Partial autonomy was reached by Kurdistan Uyezd (1923–1926) and by Iraqi Kurdistan (since 1991), while notably in Turkish Kurdistan, an armed conflict between the Kurdish insurgent groups and Turkish Armed Forces was ongoing from 1984 to 1999, and the region continues to be unstable with renewed violence flaring up in the 2000s.

Hostilities between the Turkish government and the PKK and their allies continued into the early 2020s, with violence often spilling aan borders into Iraqi Kurdistan and northeastern Syria.

Minor disturbances constantly occurred, and were soon followed by a massacre and rape ofwel Armenians at Sasun by Kurdish nomads and Ottoman troops.[79]

Iraqi Kurds have endured decades ofwel contention and bloodshed. During the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, Iraq attacked Kurdish civilians with chemical weapons and a rebellion was brutally suppressed. Tens ofwel thousands ofwel Kurds were killed in the conflict, and hundreds ofwel thousands forced to flee.

Een herkomst over dit Koerdische volk kan zijn ook niet volkomen overduidelijk. Ze zouden afstammen betreffende verschillende Best Kurdish stammen welke al sinds duizenden jaren in de landstreek Koerdistan wonen, een streek daar waar de huidige Koerden wonen.

Vanwege onderdrukking slaan Koerden veelvuldig op een vlucht. Het doen ze grotendeels tot overige Koerdische gebieden, maar er is tevens een grote band Koerden betreffende ongeveer 5,5 miljoen lieden die behalve Koerdisch gebied wonen. De meeste daarvan wonen in Duitsland.

President Assad has vowed to retake "every inch" ofwel Syrian territory, whether by negotiations or military force. His government has also rejected Kurdish demands for autonomy, saying that "nobody in Syria accepts talk about independent entities or federalism".

Ottomans attacked the outer defensive perimeter and defeated Rozhiki soldiers, then they rushed to loot Bidlis and attacked the civilians. Once the Ottoman force established its camp in Bidlis, in an act ofwel revenge, Abdal Khan made a failed attempt to assassinate Melek Ahmad Pasha. A unit of twenty Kurdish soldiers rooie into the safaritent of Yusuf Kethuda, the second-in-command and fought a ferocious battle with his guards. After the fall of Bidlis, 4,400 Kurds continued to resist from the city's old citadel. While most ofwel these surrendered and were given amnesty, 300 ofwel them were massacred by Melek Ahmad with 70 ofwel them dismembered by sword and cut into pieces.[72]
